Project Description
In May 2026, greenSand Japan carried out a pilot Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) activity at the Narusawa Festival grounds on the shore of Narusawa Lake in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. A total of 1,000 kg of finely ground olivine sand (Grade No.7) was manually spread by festival participants across the event area as part of an interactive climate-action and education activity framed as "Sand Spreading Project – Together, We Build the Sandpit of the Future." The olivine sand replaced conventional silica sand as functional ground cover, with carbon removal as an additional benefit.
About the Remover
The project is operated by greenSand Japan, a trading name of Liv-Tech Inc., based in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Liv-Tech Inc. is a Japanese company active in the supply and application of olivine-based products for carbon removal and soil improvement, and serves as the primary contact and certification applicant for this project. The olivine sand was produced by Toho Olivine Kogyo Co., Ltd. at its Hidaka Plant. The Narusawa Festival activity was co-organised with the Narusawa Fes Committee and Ichijo Housing Gunma.
