About the project
On 19 August 2026, greenSand Japan carried out an Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) demonstration at the Ichijo Housing Gunma Technical Center in Isesaki, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. A total of 6,000 kg of Olivine Sand Grade No.7, supplied by Toho Olivine Kogyo Co., Ltd., was applied across two site areas: 5,000 kg was incorporated into the employee parking area using a mini excavator, manual raking and roller compaction, and 1,000 kg was manually spread over the entrance roadside embankment, courtyard tree area and garden path. The olivine replaces conventional mineral aggregate and silica sand as a functional ground-cover material, while enabling permanent atmospheric CO₂ removal through enhanced silicate weathering.
