Description CO2 Clean-up method greenSand

GreenSand removes CO2 using rock weathering of olivine-rich rocks in terrestrial applications. By changing as much of the conventionally used stone and sand as possible to the use of olivine-rich rock, negative emissions are created. This is because when olivine is weathered, CO2 is extracted from the atmosphere and chemically bound. This is an irreversible process.

Project description

The maintenance paths along the traintracks of the Arnhem depot (Arnhem opstelterrein) have been made of olivine: a type of stone that absorbs CO2 from the environment through enhanced rock weathering, thereby lowering the CO2 content in the air.
