About the Project
Romeynshof Rotterdam is a pioneering 50-meter-high residential building that sets a new benchmark for sustainable, inclusive, and nature-oriented urban living. Designed as one of the largest hybrid timber-concrete structures in the Netherlands, Romeynshof incorporates nearly 6,000 m³ of biobased materials, storing a large amount of carbon within its structure and significantly reducing its environmental footprint. The design integrates greenery, biodiversity roofs, and water-retaining landscapes, enhancing ecological value while creating a vibrant and healthy urban ecosystem.
More than just a building, Populus represents a circular way of living. It combines owner-occupied and rental apartments to ensure social diversity and accessibility, while shared spaces and public functions foster connection among residents and neighbors. With its modular, low-carbon design and focus on reuse and adaptability, Populus demonstrates how large-scale biobased construction can deliver both environmental and social impact — offering a forward-looking model for the future of city living.
