De BosBoerderij – WIJdehorst is a nature-based carbon removal project located in Wassenaar, The Netherlands, focused on establishing a biodiverse food forest system to increase long-term carbon storage in ecosystem stocks. The project is designed to enhance carbon sequestration in above-ground and below-ground biomass and soil organic carbon through the development and ecological management of perennial and woody vegetation across 0.49 hectares of land. The system integrates diverse tree, shrub, and groundcover species arranged in a layered agroecological design that supports regenerative food production, improved soil health, and enhanced biodiversity. The design of the food forest supports multiple co-benefits, including increased structural diversity, habitat provision for wildlife, soil regeneration, and perennial food production.

De BosBoerderij B.V. is the project operator for the De BosBoerderij – WIJdehorst project. It is an initiative dedicated to developing and managing food forests and regenerative land-use systems that combine ecological restoration with sustainable productive use. Driven by a mission to show that agriculture can be both productive and restorative, De BosBoerderij combines forest management, ecological succession and food production to create biodiverse systems that enrich soil health, sequester carbon and support resilient landscapes.The organization operates at the intersection of agroforestry, biodiversity enhancement, and climate mitigation, applying ecological design principles and long-term stewardship to generate measurable climate and environmental benefits.
