Project details
The Corazon Paulownia & Agroforestry project is a nature-based carbon removal initiative located on Corazonland, at the edge of the Zeeland village of Sint Annaland in the Netherlands. The project combines a paulownia system of 0.18 hectares with an agroforestry system of 0.40 hectares, together sequestering carbon in both living biomass and soil organic carbon.
The project focuses on increasing carbon through the establishment of paulownia trees and an agroforestry system on mineral agricultural soils. During growth, the trees progressively increase the amount of carbon fixed in above-ground biomass and below-ground root systems, while also contributing to soil organic carbon accumulation.
About the remover
The project is led by Stichting Corazon, a Dutch foundation based in Sint Annaland, Zeeland, working at the intersection of Christian values, sustainable living, and ecological restoration. Corazonland — the foundation's base of operations — is a green site combining a food garden, mini food forest, agroforestry plots, and a community market serving local residents and vulnerable households.
