Project details
The Paulownia Westerland project is located in Wolphaartsdijk, the Netherlands, and covers 1.55 hectares of agricultural land. Established in 2025, the project consists of a Paulownia-based agroforestry system designed to increase long-term ecosystem carbon storage while maintaining productive land use. Trees are planted in rows at a spacing of 3 by 4 meters, creating a density of approximately 825 trees per hectare. To enhance biodiversity, pear trees have been planted at both ends of each tree row, providing additional habitat and landscape diversity.
About the Remover
The project is operated by Maatschap Landbouwbedrijf Westerland, represented by Pico de Jager, and located in Wolphaartsdijk, the Netherlands. The company is responsible for the establishment, management, monitoring, and long-term stewardship of the Paulownia system.
