Welcome to food forest Lingehout!
Food forest Lingehout has been under construction in Geldermalsen The Netherlands from early 2022. This project entails 12 hectares of food forest and horticulture, from which eventually food will be harvested all year round. By letting nature take its course as much as possible and without using pesticides or artificial fertilisers, what was an empty plain is becoming a beautiful, thriving and vibrant food forest. Food forest Lingehout is a cooperative food forest in which private individuals help with development and maintenance.
As food forests include a wide variety of trees, shrubs and other plants, they can store large amounts of carbon. A total of 8.74 hectares of the food forest that has been planted has been certified for it's carbon sequestration and storage.
Food forest Lingehout is a combination of an agriculturally productive food forest with ancillary functions such as education, information and perception. With the food forest we want to explicitly fulfill a broad social function in the municipality. That is why all kinds of activities around sustainability, local food production and nature are organised. These include planting days, tours and workshops.
