About the Project
Easy Housing uses sustainably sourced timber to build Easy Homes in Uganda. Trees capture CO2 from the atmosphere and store that carbon into the wood they grow. This so-called process of carbon sequestration, also known as carbon storage, stores approximately 1.5 kg of CO2 per kg of timber that is used. This means that, by using timber as building material, Easy Housing stores carbon in their homes.
The circular design of the homes ensures that the carbon can be stored for long term. Easy Homes are built with standardised designs using screws, which makes it easy to expand the home as the family grows, or take it apart and rebuild it in a new location. This makes the homes future-proof, changing with the needs of the household, eliminating the need to demolish the homes. This way, long-term carbon storage is secured.
Here a total of 10 Easy Homes have been built and certified in Uganda. These homes provide sustainable and affordable housing for families. Through these homes a total of 108 tCO2e is stored in the long term.

About the Remover
Easy Housing builds circular and climate-resilient homes using sustainable timber. Easy Housing operates in several African countries, working with local labour and value chains to ensure cultural integration and stimulate the local economy. Through the use of sustainable timber, Easy Homes create carbon storage and enhance sustainable forestry practices. The circular nature of the homes allows for long-term use and storage, and minimises waste. The standardised designs and prefabrication in factories ensures the quality, quick construction and affordability of the homes. This way it offers a unique solution to the growing need for affordable, sustainable housing across Africa – Sustainable. Social. Scalable.
Easy Housing is a brand of Easy Housing Concepts Uganda Ltd, a design and build company registered in Uganda. Easy Housing is a subdiary of Easy Building Concepts BV, with the brand Easy Building. Easy Building is registered in The Netherlands, and develops and licences its building technology to Easy Housing Uganda and other building partners in emerging economies. As part of the licensing agreement, building partners like Easy Housing Uganda, legally acknowledge and transfer the claim to Carbon Removal Units (CRUs) that are realised by the structures that are built in the building technology of Easy Building. Easy Building is therefore the dedicated legal entity selling the CRUs of Easy Homes to buyers, and uses the revenue of CRUs to develop its building technology and as discount on the licence fee in order to enhance the affordability of its concepts in the target markets.
